Redefining Storage: The Innovative Spirit and Success of Kliptank

When it comes to industries like water storage, effluent containment, and industrial tank systems, innovation isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind.

However, Tauranga-based company Kliptank has made innovation its cornerstone, redefining what these systems can achieve. With a commitment to continuous improvement and smart design, Kliptank has grown from a local enterprise into a respected name in storage solutions both in New Zealand and internationally.

Innovation at the Core of Kliptank’s Success

As Tauranga Business Chamber staff recently observed during a visit to Kliptank’s Tauriko facilities, the company embodies the spirit of innovation. From their unique approach to tank design to their dedication to sustainable practices, Kliptank is not just meeting industry standards—they are setting them. Their ability to innovate in both product and process has positioned them as a key player in the global market for storage solutions.

The Modular Tank System: A Game Changer
A commercial water storage system capable of holding up to 6 million liters of water.

Founded in 2009, Kliptank started with a vision to create versatile, efficient, and environmentally sustainable storage solutions. At the heart of this vision is their patented modular tank system, constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Unlike traditional storage tanks, Kliptank’s products are designed to be shipped in flat packs, making them easier to transport and assemble on-site. This modular approach has proven especially valuable in remote locations where access and infrastructure may be limited.

During the Chamber’s tour, Kliptank’s Marketing Manager Duheine Myburgh and Workshop Manager Hylton Holtham shared stories of delivering 280 flat-pack water tanks to the Marshall Islands, providing freshwater solutions for the islands’ residents. More recently, they have returned from projects in the Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea, where their products are set to make a significant impact on local communities. So much good is happening it’s hard to find the time to put it on paper,” says Duheine in a recent phone call between trips.

Versatility for Diverse Applications

While Kliptank’s work extends to islands abroad, their products are also a staple in New Zealand. From farms and golf courses to industrial sites, Kliptank’s versatile storage solutions cater to various sectors. The company has provided storage solutions for a wide range of applications, from agricultural water and effluent storage to industrial liquid containment and even specialised tanks for unique industries like the film sector. This adaptability has allowed Kliptank to meet the diverse needs of its clients, tailoring solutions to specific challenges and ensuring that each product delivers optimal performance.

Efficiency and Sustainability: A Seamless Integration

The innovation doesn’t stop with the product design. Their workshop beams with innovative processes where employees have worked to continuously improve the various stages of manufacturing.  Kliptank’s entire business model reflects a commitment to efficiency and sustainability. Eliminating the need for concrete foundations, their tanks reduce the environmental impact of construction and offer a quicker setup, saving both time and costs for clients. Moreover, these tanks are durable and require minimal maintenance, ensuring long-term reliability.

Kliptank’s commitment to innovation extends to its internal culture. Director Kim Henderson emphasises the importance of upskilling the company’s workforce, ensuring that every team member stays updated with the latest techniques and knowledge. Their story is a testament to what can be achieved when a company prioritises innovation, efficiency, and a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its clients.
