Export & Certification

Helping take your business further

The international export documentation process often requires documents be certified by a member of the Tauranga Business Chamber.

You will know if documents need certification by the Chamber from details on your Letter of Credit or from instructions received from the importer.

Be sure to check the details you have received carefully or discuss directly with the importer to ensure you meet requirements correctly the first time.

As a guideline, certification is often required:

  • If you are exporting to some Middle Eastern or Latin American countries,
  • If you are exporting particular foodstuffs and related products
  • If a developing country has a special concession arrangement; or
  • If New Zealand has a free trade or bilateral agreement with the country to which you are exporting.

Types of Export Documents

Certificate of Origin

A document to certify the place of growth, production or manufacture of goods. Required when exporting to specific countries, when requested by a consignee for customs clearance, or when stipulated in a Letter of Credit.

New Certificate of Origin Templates

The Certificate of Origin template has been updated in eCertify. This means any client submitting via eCert Webdocs will automatically be using the new template.
We wish to encourage all clients submitting wet-stamped documents via the Chamber or the online eCert Submit method to use the new template going forwards.

All electronically certified Certificates of Origin using the new template now bear the International Chamber of Commerce Accreditation seal and can be verified online.

PLEASE NOTE, the only countries still requesting wet-stamped documents are:
Certificates of Origin and related export documents for exports to Algeria, Bahrain*, Cuba, Egypt*, Ethiopia*, Guatemala*, Iraq*, Jordan*, Kuwait*, Lebanon, Oman, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey*, Yemen and UAE*.
* These countries are known to accept electronically certified documents without issue, so it is worth checking if a wet-stamp is required.

Please note, the Chamber has recently undergone a rebrand and as such will be using a new logo. From Friday, April 1, 2022, all wet stamp templates and eCertify templates will be changing to reflect our new logo.

Our legal name and NZBN remain the same.

We ask that you please use the new templates above as soon as possible. However, to ensure a smooth transition and to enable you to communicate this change to your importers, we will continue to accept the old templates with our former logo on it until June 30, 2022.

After this date, only Certificate of Origin applications on the 2021 NZCCI Tauranga Chamber template with the new Tauranga Business Chamber logo will be accepted.

Certificate of Free Sale / Certificate of Manufacture

These forms seek assurances from a governmental agency that the associated products offered for entry into their country comply with the requirements of the New Zealand laws of distribution in our domestic market. These certificates can also be referred to as “Certificate of Export”, or “Certificate of Foreign Governments”.

Carnet

A carnet is a Customs document that facilitates the temporary export of goods overseas, and is valid for up to one year. A Carnet is like a passport for your goods. Carnets are issued and guaranteed by national organisations around the world. The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce is the sole guaranteeing and issuing association for New Zealand.

Changes with Brexit

From 1 January 2021 the UK will be an independent market and separate customs jurisdiction to the European single market and customs union. The EU and UK are yet to conclude a Free Trade Agreement. Whilst existing conditions for trade access to the EU and Northern Ireland, for third countries, such as New Zealand, continues, there are some important factors to consider.

For New Zealand exports to England, Scotland and Wales there will be new registration systems for standards, customs, and sanitary/phyto-sanitary regulation.
