Immediate tools & resources available

Cashflow forecaster tool: Access this tool, and many others provided by business.govt.nz, to help forecast your business health and inform your decision-making.

Employment support and redundancies: This site provides a range of tips on paying staff leave – particularly for casual/shift staff – and tips for acting in good faith in right-sizing your staff-levels.

If redundancies are required, feel free contact Work & Income’s Early Response team to support the transition of your impacted staff via email (BOP_EarlyResponseTeam@msd.govt.nz) or call 0800 778 008 on Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm.

Upcoming IRD obligations & payments: Talk to the IRD (or via your tax agent) about delaying your upcoming payments . IRD noted that you should focus on your immediate business needs first and talk to them when you are ready.

Upcoming Council rates and fees: Talk to Tauranga City Council & the BOP Regional Council about postponing your upcoming rates, and other fees during the recovery.

Insurance Cover: Contact your insurer or insurance broker about lodging a claim for any property damage or business continuity cover in accordance with your policies.

Business lease agreements: As a lease agreement is a private contract between the landlord and tenant, you will need to refer to your signed contract and landlord for any lease discounts, landlord vs tenant obligations, or dispute resolution process. It will likely be best to seek legal advice.

Support your wellbeing: Access videos and resources on: Mental flexibility to save time and energy | Get into the right headspace for success

Longer-term recovery: Some won’t return to business-as-usual for many months, especially those still impacted by Mauao, hotpools, and the campgroup being closed to the public. You will need to review your longer-term plan and marketing strategy in preparation for the quieter winter months and potentially longer. The Regional Business Partnership is available to provide business owners with training support to help review your strategy. This Government service is delivered locally by Tauranga Business Chamber, you can find out more by clicking here.

Stay up-to-date (Mount Mainstreet): If you’re a business in the northern Mount Maunganui area, contact Mount Mainstreet to join their Mount Mainstreet WhatsApp group. Tauranga City Council will also provide regular updates to Mount Maunganui businesses.

Stay tuned for further business support and information as they are announced
