Digital marketing training spices up restaurant’s revenue

When revenue is down, upskilling in digital marketing can be an incredibly effective way to bring back momentum.

That’s the case for Khem Aryan, owner of Great Spice Otumoetai, who is reaping the benefits of completing new group digital marketing trainings hosted by Tauranga Business Chamber.

Breaking Through a Revenue Plateau

“The Chamber’s One:Some digital marketing training helped me to take my restaurant’s marketing efforts to the next level, resulting in new customers and a significant revenue boost.” – Khem Aryan, owner Great Spice Otumoetai.

After struggling to break through a revenue plateau the last two years, Khem sought help from the Chamber to try turn the tide.

“We’ve always had great customer feedback and we’ve won several awards, but despite that, our revenue had plateaued,” says Khem.

“With the cost of living and business expenses increasing, it’s a challenging time for small business. We knew we had to do more than drop flyers in letterboxes if we were going to start growing again.”

A Fresh Approach: One:Some Digital Marketing Training

In September 2024, Khem met with the Chamber and was introduced to their new ‘One:Some’ training workshops, which offer cost-effective digital marketing training in group settings.

In the months since, Khem has completed the ‘Create your social media content plan’, ‘Getting started in creative AI’, and the ‘Leverage LinkedIn to grow your business’ workshops.

The training gave Khem practical skills he could implement straight away, and the confidence to start engaging with, and growing, his online community.

“Before the workshops, I didn’t really know where to start with social media, and I wasn’t sure what content would appeal to our customers,” he says.

The workshop gave me clear steps to take and really helped me focus on what mattered for our audience. It was a game-changer for us.” – Khem Aryan, owner Great Spice Otumoetai

Tangible Results: More Customers, More Revenue

The workshops not only expanded his marketing knowledge but connected him to other local business owners, fostering a sense of community and support.

“It’s nice to know we’re all facing similar challenges and can learn from each other,” says Khem.

As a result, Great Spice Otumoetai has a stronger social media presence, and Khem has been able to launch more targeted marketing campaigns.

His restaurant has seen a noticeable increase in engagement, new customers, and revenue.

“It’s been incredible to see our hard work pay off, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing.”

A Winning Solution for Small Businesses

Chamber Growth & Innovation Manager, Roz Irwin, says the One:Some training workshops are a great option for small businesses wanting to upskill their digital marketing.

“These workshops are not only cost-effective, but they provide an opportunity to meet with, and learn from, other businesses, as well as providing a safe environment for people who speak English as a second language.

Khem’s success story is a perfect example of how businesses can leverage digital marketing to stay competitive and thrive.” – Roz Irwin, Tauranga Business Chmaber

The RBP one:Some workshops are open to all businesses and, in some cases, can be eligible for co-funding.
