Toi Ohomai hosted a successful BA5 event in the campus Atrium where attendees enjoyed a wonderful selection of food and drinks and had the opportunity to connect.
The focus of the evening was the future of vocational and applied higher education and training. Chief Executive, Dr Leon Fourie spoke about the national reform of vocational education (RoVE) and how these changes will benefit learners, the community and business. Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology is one of the ITPs leading the charge in the sector’s transition into one new unified, national network, Te Pūkenga.
Te Pūkenga will bring together all 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics across Aotearoa into one network of on-the-job, on-campus and online learning.
Toi Ohomai and Wintec recently announced their early transition into Te Pūkenga, signalling the change readiness of the two institutes and the strengths of the collective teams.
Toi Ohomai and Wintec had been identified as potential early movers and this was supported by the respective boards. This move is now happening earlier than scheduled and the completion of the move of Toi Ohomai and Wintec into Te Pūkenga will be finalised by 31 May 2022. The Early Mover Institutes is one of four workstreams in the Te Pūkenga 2022 Work Programme.
The current boards for both institutes will be dis-established by 31 May 2022, when the two entities will report to Te Pūkenga management and governance.
Dr Fourie will take up the exciting new role of Wintec/Toi Ohomai Transitional Executive Lead to steer the organisations through this change. This role will mean that he will now manage the Wintec Executive Leadership Team as well as the Toi Ohomai Senior Leadership Team.
Other than the changes at our board and CE level, there will be no staffing changes, nor will there be any name or brand changes ahead of the planned transition in 2023. The strategic direction, key initiatives and relationships for Toi Ohomai will remain unchanged.
The Toi Ohomai brand will remain in place until 31 March 2023, and the Institute has already begun co-branding with Te Pūkenga, meaning both logos will be seen alongside one another in most marketing material.
The team at Toi Ohomai is committed to continuing to provide quality education around the rohe and there will be no changes to the day-to-day teaching and learning activities of staff and learners
Thank you to the fantastic team at Toi Ohomai for hosting this informative event.
