Following a rapid increase in awareness of health and safety and HR post-COVID-19, local consulting firm Pillar Consulting is seeking expressions of interest from potential candidates looking to develop their skills in this sector.

The team, who work across the country and with a range of clients, are looking to expand as the demand for their services increases.

Mariska Smit from Pillar says it’s great to see businesses in NZ realising that health and safety compliance is as crucial as any other area of business compliance.

“Clients don’t know what they don’t know, or don’t have a clue where to start. It can be pretty overwhelming for someone who has never worked in the health and safety field to know what to do to ensure compliance in this space.

“The most common requests we are getting at the moment are from clients asking Pillar to assess their current health and safety status, to identify gaps and areas requiring improvement.

Often, clients do not have the internal resource to complete the work required to get them up to compliance level, therefore, they engage with us on an ad-hoc or ongoing basis to improve their health and safety capability.”

Mariska says where Pillar can be of assistance is that they can upskill businesses in all areas of health and safety compliance without getting bogged down in the jargon.

“We understand that health and safety can be a very ‘dry’ and compliance heavy topic – one that often sends people to sleep. We are always working on making sure people buy into it and feel like they’re part of the solution, rather than just being lectured to.”

Pillar is looking for expressions of interest from individuals who are genuinely passionate about keeping people safe at work and would enjoy working alongside their clients to find the best solutions for their business.

“We do not believe in tick-box exercises. We pride ourselves on getting to know each business individually and partnering with them as if we are an extension of their team.
