Road pricing: options for the future of Tauranga’s roading infrastructure

There’s a lot of talk about road tolls, congestion charges, and variable road pricing as a way to reduce traffic demand at peak periods, raise funding for transport projects and encourage more people to use alternative modes of transport.

When polled in June, Chamber members said they didn’t want variable road pricing, mainly because there was some confusion over what it involved, and they didn’t want it to go to bikes and buses.

Commissioner Anne Tolley spoke with Tauranga Business Chamber CEO Matt Cowley to explain:

  • What variable road pricing is
  • How it will ensure better use of our roads
  • Alternative ways to fund roading infrastructure
  • How Tauranga can benefit from road tolls
